Life and death are the two sides of a coin that appears to make an impact based on the side of the coin one is looking at. Ivan Ilyich, a representation of the social life prevalent in life, goes through a similar phase, where he experiences his life according to the side of the coin he is witnessing, but there is a twist, this coin is not the regular ones, and one can practically see through to the other while looking at one, thus, giving Ivan the bliss and pain of viewing death while being alive, being dead when alive, and being almost alive in death. He is like every social life hugging commoner aiming to climb the social ladder and living off the conventions set forth like people like him; education, career, marriage, growth, and the like, but as there are twists in his life always, comes in a chance for him to redeem, through his visions, and a chance to look beyond the conventions.
